Build your WiFi infrastructure, not clicker receivers
IT requirements
- In order to use Top Hat Monocle in a class one of two things need to be present: cell phone reception, or WiFi access.
- It’s pretty rare that a classroom doesn’t have either of these two, but when it does happen the solution is to request for a WiFi access point to be put into the classroom. Ultimately if you’re looking at classroom response systems, either you’re installing clicker transmitters in the classrooms or you’re ensuring that the university infrastructure is in place. The latter is a long term investment.
- The bandwidth requirements for Top Hat Monocle are extremely low, typically 2MB per hour per 100 students. For a 100 student class typically 20-30% will use laptops, and the rest will use smartphones or cell phones, so one access point in the area is sufficient.
LMS integration
- Top Hat Monocle works with your IT department to allow integration with the school's LMS system, including Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai and Desire2Learn.
- This integration will include single sign-on as well as automatic grade transfer from Top Hat Monocle into the LMS.
Training
- Top Hat Monocle provides full training for all professors who use the tool, as well as ongoing support.
- We are also always happy to train on-site staff to provide training and support to professors.
Tech support
- Our tech support is truly second to none, with response times averaging 15 minutes. There is a prominent support link on the teacher and student console that they can click on to receive immediate assistance.
- Throughout the term we conduct satisfaction surveys for all professors and students and constantly improve the tool according to their feedback.
- We’ve been known to implement feature requests with a 24 hour turnaround.
Satellite polling
- Top Hat Monocle is a web based tool, so satellite polling is handled automatically without any additional work. You can have as many remote classrooms as necessary and everyone will be kept in sync in real-time.
Accessibility
- Top Hat Monocle is a web based tool and supports screen readers that visually impaired users normally use with their devices.
- We also test our tool to ensure color blind users are not at a disadvantage.
